Dorothy Reed was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She graduated with
a degree in Studio Arts from Skidmore College. Since childhood she has
developed a unique vision of the world in black and white, therefore
preferring the medium of pen and ink. Integrated into every drawing are
aspects of her personal interests and experiences, namely patterns,
detail, and repetition of patterns playing on themes of childhood,
nature and journeys. She is a great admirer of ancient and contemporary
ornamentation, weavings, tapestries, and sculpture, as well as folk
tales. When she is not illustrating, Dorothy Reed spends her spare time
researching and writing children’s books. She also enjoys needlepoint
and carving carousel horses.
